Repent Definition
Definition of repentance, as depicted in the HOLY SCRIPTURE, involves forsaking one’s sins and embracing a righteous and obedient life in accordance with the teachings of CHRIST. Repentance is a profound concept that carries deep spiritual significance. It is not simply a superficial act of saying sorry or feeling remorse for one’s actions. Instead, it involves a sincere and heartfelt transformation of one’s entire being. The term “repent” is derived from the Hebrew word “Teshuvah,” meaning “to return” meaning a change of mind to return from a strayed path.” Therefore, repentance, by definition, is returning from one’s strayed direction to align with the will of God, as emphasized in 2 Chronicles 7:14. This transformation of the heart and mind extends beyond mere cognitive adjustment; it encompasses a complete shift in behavior and actions. When you repent, you are giving up your old self and entering into a new life with CHRIST. It requires a genuine admission that you are a sinner in need of God’s infinite grace for salvation.
Throughout the New Testament, CHRIST preached about repentance, urging individuals to acknowledge their sins and turn away from them in order to receive forgiveness from GOD. An illustrative example can be found in the book of Luke, where CHRIST proclaims, “The time has come. The kingdom of GOD is near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Luke 3:3). John’s message serves as a powerful reminder that repentance is not only about acknowledging our sins but also about embracing the transformative power of the gospel. This declaration highlights the significance of repentance in the context of salvation etc. Similarly, in the book of Matthew 4:17, JESUS THE CHRIST began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
CHRIST, consistently emphasized the importance of repentance through HIS words and actions, JESUS demonstrated that repentance is an essential step towards experiencing a renewed relationship with YAHOWA and receiving HIS forgiveness.
Repentance is more than just a change in behavior; it is a fundamental shift in our entire being. It involves a genuine admission of our sinful nature and a surrendering of our lives to God’s grace and mercy. It requires a willingness to let go of our self-centered desires and to embrace a life of righteousness and obedience to God’s teachings.
Repentance involves not only the transformation of our thoughts and actions but also the renewal of our mind, hearts and spirits. It is a spiritual journey that leads us closer to God, enabling us to experience His love, forgiveness, and abundant life.
